Okay… maybe not red bottoms, but you get the gist. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in the university as a pre-nursing major. I was a “smart student,” and it was the smart thing to do, you know, have something solid and commendable under my belt. Becoming a nurse was a no-brainer. I made the dean’s list during my first semester, but it was short-lived.

My actual passion was modeling. I grew up binge-watching ANTM and dreamed of ripping the runway alongside Karlie Kloss (the coldest to ever walk the walk, period). In my reality, tall, dark-skinned girls were made fun of. But it was different in modeling, they were accepted and almost praised, and I wanted a piece.

I mean, let’s be real, if I got a Christian Dior exclusive in Paris, Fashion Week, I would be at my fitting yesterday. I always imagined living in a NY flat with floor to ceiling windows and a modeling career longer than Naomi Campbell’s 40’ Brazilian straight bundles, but not before paying my dues and struggling in a cardboard model apartment, of course. I’d jet from casting to casting in my sky-high single sole pumps and all-black model uniform. I started doing fashion shows in my hometown around 2012. I’d walk those runways as if I was in New York and always came beat!

Over the past 6 years, there have been many ups and downs in my makeup career, but one thing was for certain. There was a “look” and finish that I wanted to perfect, the complexion. I’ve been chasing that airbrushed complexion ever since.
